Erythemaabigne is caused by a chronic exposure to moderate heat. The reticular erythema can be accompanied by epidermal atrophy, scaling, and hyperpigmentation. It was frequently seen in the past in people who frequently sat in front of open fires for warmth, but it occurs less often since the introduction of central heating. Nevertheless, it is still seen after local application of heating pads, hot water bottles, or heating blankets. Modern appliances that have been reported to elicit erythemaabigne are furniture with built-in heaters, car heaters, and laptop computers
